Enjoy Maui beach activities on the beautiful white sands of Maluaka Beach at Makena Beach & Golf Resort

Take a one-hour lesson and learn the basics of this exciting new water sport that’s loosely described as walking on water. The lesson includes a 40-minute water experience and a 10-minute cool-down period.

The ultimate cultural experience in Hawaii is to ride in a Hawaiian outrigger canoe. This 2-hour adventure explains the lore and traditions of old Hawaii as you explore the coast by canoe and stop along the way to swim and snorkel the reef. A shorter, one-hour tour lets you discover the majestic coastline while learning about the history of the area, from ancient to modern times.

Maui sunsets are legendary for their fiery beauty and tranquil nature. Offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, (times vary seasonally), this 2-hour tour takes you beyond the resort and out into the bay for a leisurely sail along Makena’s spectacular coastline.

Sail away and participate in a “snorkel safari.” Snorkel along a secluded reef abundant with sea life including the green sea turtle and endangered species. Once you have had your fill of snorkeling, enjoy a refreshing “rinse-off” shower with one of four heated fresh-water shower. A light breakfast, snacks and lunch along with beverages are included.

Winter season is best for catching a glimpse of these giant creatures of the deep. Maui is the birthing home for the Alaskan Humpback whales who have made the journey every year for centuries. Your whale watching trip will include guides who share knowledge and folklore about the whales during a 2-hour journey. Trips are offered December through April.

Dolphins Dead Ahead!... Following Kanaio, you will cruise to the protected waters of La Perouse Bay, frequently encountering a school of spinner dolphins, including babies, along the way or in the bay it's self. Named for their acrobatics, these playful mammals will frolic in the wave produced by our boat sometimes only a few feet from the bow!

This is one of the most popular tour adventures because it combines the opportunity to explore a rarely seen and uninhabited part of Maui, the volcanic Kanaio Coast, with a variety of remote exotic snorkeling sites, including both spinner dolphins and green sea turtle habitats, and the famous Molokini Marine Preserve.

Get certified on vacation in as little as three days. These classes are small and personal. Pool training is included in this program to get you comfortable and will go at your own pace. Complete your classroom training through E-learning before you get here and DIVE RIGHT IN!

Water sessions will be conducted in hotel pool and Makena resort beach. Maui Dive Shop is proud to offer both PADI and SSI certifications. Course includes dives, classroom, video presentations and all scuba equipment. (Student must provide their own mask, snorkel and fins that can be purchased or rented from 1 of 7 stores.

Free introductory class. Learn the basic skills to breath underwater. Get up close and personal with the marine life. Lessons will be taught by a professional, licensed and insured SCUBA Instructor. Class is limited to first come first serve. Advanced sign up is recommended. Limited to 4 spots.  (complimentary)

SCUBA Reef Tour to follow class immediately: 
After students are done with the pool lesson, a reef tour will be available. Tours last approx. 45 minutes and is limited to 4 people. Cost  ($109 per person) all gear included.

Optional Boat Dive: 
Following our free scuba lesson hotel guests can opt to do an intro dive aboard our 2 vessels; the "Maka Koa" our 48-foot custom scuba boat or the luxurious "Alii Nui" catamaran both located at Maalea Harbor. Transportation to and from Makena Resort will be provided by Maui Dive Shop. All Scuba gear included. (Transportation included on Alii Nui)

Come ride a DPV (Diver Propulsion Vehicle) open to certified divers. Come cruise out to the wrecks in Makena Bay. Dives will be led by certified professionals. They will teach you how to use the scooters then will lead you out and around the bay.Cost ($149 per person for 1 tank dive) 24hr advanced sign up required.

Certified divers can plan a reef tour with our certified professionals to see the incredible marine life in Makena Bay. ($89 for 1 tank or $109 for 2 tanks per person)

Come learn the basic skills to enjoy our wonderful marine life while snorkeling. Learn how equipment is set up and used. Classes take place at pool side, no experience necessary. (complimentary)

One of the most popular Maui beach activities is to ride the Kai Kanani II, a 65-foot catamaran, out to nearby Molokini Island for the adventure of a lifetime. Fantastic snorkeling and spectacular views of Maui from the sea are yours in these 2- and 4-hour tours that depart daily from the shores of Maluaka Beach. Times vary seasonally.

Discover the magical world beneath the ocean waves just a short kayak ride from the seashore. This 2-hour tour includes your snorkel gear, basic instruction and safety guidelines, life jacket, and light refreshments.

For those who like to venture out without a guide, pick-up rental equipment and safety tips at the Makena Beach Activity Center. Rental equipment is available for the following:
