Cruise the winding scenic roads of Makena Alanui in style or take these classic bikes beachside along the flagstone roads of the historic Kings Trail, either way you'll get a sense of an era gone by and get lost in the serene environment that is Makena while getting some great cardio on these Schwinn bikes compliments of the Makena Beach & Golf Resort. Makena Beach & Golf Resort has answered the request of guests on online review sites like Trip Advisor and Yelp, and now offers complimentary guest rental bikes. These rentals come complete with helmets, locks, and beverage holders. These classic style cruising bikes are built to the Schwinn quality standard. With over 100 years of cycling heritage, passion and expertise, Schwinn has a commitment to creating the best bikes available today. This bike was made for leisure biking, with comfort and ease-of-use  in mind. Bikes can be checked out through the resort concierge desk and picked up via the bell desk.

Star Gazing "An Evening Under the Stars"

Get in touch with both nature and the wonders of technology, with added tiny bit of nostalgia with the resort's newest activity — An Evening Under the Stars. Due to popular demand, the Evening Under the Stars has a new location and new astronomer Rebecca Sydney leading a night of campfires, s’mores and stargazing with advance technology. Complimentary for in-house guests, this activity will excite the kid in all of us. Rebecca Sydney, Maui's resident astronomer for 23 years, brings a night of fun, relaxation and learning to the Makena Beach & Golf Resort. President of the Maui Astronoy Club, Rebecca combines the use of lasers, a telescope, ipads and a labtop to create a entertaining interactive night complete with a traditional campfire and s'more making.

The classes are free for all registered resort guests and joins an expansive list of complimentary recreational activities made available at Makena.Each class looks to provide resort guests with a low impact and non-rigorous way to improve their health and fitness during their Makena stay. Each Tuesday class focuses on Tai Chi a non-impact therapeutic exercise that includes breathing, stretching and relaxation techniques to energize, boost immunity and normalize blood pressure. Each Thursday class will explore Pilates; a class designed to build strong core and lower back muscles, while enhancing muscular symmetry, body alignment, strength and flexibility. Taught by Maui instructor Juliet Lee, Lee has over 20 years of yoga instruction experience, and served as a past instructor for the Four Seasons Resort & Spa and the Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea.

The Makena Beach & Golf Resort partners with Olympian Kellie Suttle to host a series of wellness and fitness retreats at the resort’s 1,800 acre property this fall 2013. The “Well & Fit Makena” retreat series includes three separate five night/six day fitness programs with dates in August, September, and October. The fitness program includes daily boot camp sessions designed by Olympian and National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified personal trainer Kellie Suttle, daily yoga sessions with 20 year veteran yoga instructor Juliet Lee and daily food nutrition sessions. The program also includes special fitness and wellness sessions hosted by Kellie and Juliet throughout the week including hiking excursions to one of Maui’s best trails and outrigger canoe paddling lessons.  In addition retreat guests will be privy to the ocean view room accommodations in our beautified rooms with free internet, free parking and no resort fee charges, plus daily breakfast buffet and complimentary amenities such as fitness room access, bike rentals and a plethora of other complimentary onsite resort activities.

Special Classes and Session Descriptions:

Boot Camp with Kellie Suttle:  A dynamic and rigorous boot camp program, incorporating dynamic components of plyometric, sprinting, strength and cardio among the natural obstacle course that is the Makena area. Through this class, guests will be challenges and pushed to their limits, while learning and experience fun fitness concepts. Boot camp sessions include warm up and cool down instruction.

Sunset Yoga with Juliet Lee: End the day with a calming yoga session by the sea. A non-impact therapeutic exercise session including breathing, stretching and relaxation techniques designed to bring the body to rest and to de-stress.

Daily Recipe Sessions with Chef Marc: Makena Beach & Golf Resort’s Executive Chef brings  his expertise to design nutritional and tasty dishes that can be made at home. Through these daily sessions learn juice recipes, salad variations and learn about the benefits of healthy proteins.

Guided Meditation and Breath with Juliet Lee:  Learn mindful techniques to help bring the mind to rest through meditation while exploring the calming nature of Ha or breath.

Foam Rolling and Tubing with Kellie Suttle: Learn the useful nature of foam rollers in your workout regimen, designed to massage while you train these useful rollers are a way to apply pressure to sensitive areas in their muscle trigger points, knots, or areas of increased muscle density.

Outrigger Paddling with Makena Beach Boys: Spend a day with our charismatic beach crew as they teach you traditional canoe paddling techniques that the ancient Hawaiians used to travel the oceans long ago, while working your arms, back and core.

AIS Stretching/PNF Stretching with Kellie Suttle: Learn stretching techniques commonly used in clinical environments to enhance both active and passive range of motion with the ultimate goal being to optimize motor performance and rehabilitation.

Stability Ball with Kellie Suttle: Kellie teaches you how to increase core balance and abdominal fitness with these balance balls.

Progressing Workouts and Training on Unstable Surfaces with Kellie Suttle: Learn how to maximize training efficiency and be a more stable athlete.

Waihe’e Ridge Hike: Explore one of Maui’s most breathtaking hikes located in West Maui. Often known as the hike into the clouds the hikes is fairly steep 2.5 miles with panoramic views from every twist and turn, including views of Makamakaole Falls.

Experience a thrilling combination of ziplines and aerial bridges as you soar through stunning tropical forests and over lush ravines.  Once you're off the ground you are in the trees for the entire canopy tour! Zip through a tropical rainforest of towering eucalyptus, cross aerial canopy bridges and finish with a 1000-foot line that goes through a tree tunnel enjoying dramatic ocean and mountain views. Hana Adventure

Your bicycle safari begins at 6,500' elevation on Mount Haleakala, where you will gently descend the 21 switchbacks on the western slopes of the world's largest resting volcano with only 200 yards of pedaling. You'll zip on six different lines through the beautiful tree canopy and cross four aerial canopy bridges on this tour. Hawaii's longest side-by-side zipline (over half a mile) with heights ranging from 42 feet to 600 feet and speeds up to 40 miles per hour. A "Maui Must-Do" activity, you can't pass this one up!

Tango Combo

The Tango Tower is located on a 1.5 acre wooded peninsula in the middle of the action; 42 feet tall; six sides and seven challenges (2 challenges on 1 side); there is also a suspension bridge leading to the top, where the launch platform for Line 6 is located. 12 people can climb at the same time.

Waterfall Walk

If you want a short, easy hike to a couple of small waterfalls and streams in a beautiful valley, this is the perfect choice. There's plenty of time to swim, jump from 10-foot rock ledges, swing from a rope swing into a waterfall pool, plus learn about rain forests from our knowledgeable guides. Fun, easy and safe. Great for families or a party of two.

East Maui Waterfall & Rainforest Hike

The most popular hike with great waterfalls from 10 to 40 feet high, big, clear swimming pools under each fall, magical rain forests, and fresh-water streams. It's a fun adventure--you can jump and rope swing into several falls--and you learn so much from the naturalist guides.

Full Day Waterfall & Rainforest Adventure

"This is it!" one Manhattan lawyer screamed when he first laid eyes on this valley. Laurence Rockefeller must have felt the same way when he bought the land, then donated it to the national parks. It's Hawai’i of your dreams. Truly. Great hiking and swimming (optional). Unbelievable waterfalls, pools and streams.

Kayak, Snorkel & Waterfall Adventure

Do it all -- hike in a rainforest, swim under waterfalls, kayak along ocean cliffs--- in one trip a 6.5 hour total. Spend 2.5 hours on the ocean kayaking along the rugged sea cliffs of West Maui and snorkel with Hawaii's large green turtles. Then go from ocean to rainforest and hike a remote valley in the West Maui Mountains. Hike one mile roundtrip along a rainforest stream to small pools and waterfalls. End the trip in an isolated, magical spot under a 20-foot waterfall.

Haleakala Crater – 4 Mile Hike

Consists of a two mile hike at 8,000 feet through native alpine scrub forest on lava rock trail with rare tropical plants and views that stretch for miles in all directions.  Another two mile hike begins at 10,000 feet along a cinder trail past huge cinder cones.

Is 2:30am a little too early for you? Well, check out the day tour. While you don't get to see a sunrise, you do get to see inside of Haleakala Crater and the amazing natural colors of the many red cinder cones can be seen more clearly.

Haleakala National Park Tour

Travelers will have the opportunity to experience the unique scenes and atmosphere of Mount Haleakala. Before they get there, they will be able to travel through rural upcountry towns. This popular tour also takes travelers to the Iao Valley State Park and the town of Lahaina.  You need to be up by 2:30am in the morning, so good nights rest is a must!
