This is Makena. This is Golf.

Take the tour to learn more about our stunning and entertaining Maken golf course.  Here are some tips on our golf course from our PGA professional and Director of Golf Operations, Timothy Murphy:

  • Hole #1:  A relatively easy opening hole, a straightforward 419 yard par 4 – a good way to start off your round.
  • Hole #2: A 576 yard Par 5 that plays as the #1 handicap hole on the Course. Rolling terrain and a small green make par a good score here.
  • Hole #3: A severe dogleg right 363 yard par 4, be sure to hit the correct club off the tee to ensure a good look at the following green.
  • Hole #4 : A 183 yard Par 3 that features a long, thin green with a water hazard to the right of the green.
  • Hole #5: A picturesque 510 yard Par 5 that plays towards the verdant slopes of Haleakala. Be careful with your approach shot as the green is surrounded by lava rock outcroppings on both the left and right sides.
  • Hole #6: Strategy is key on the 364 yard Par 4 on Hole #6. The fairway is split by a large natural ravine. A bold play over the ravine off the tee leaves an easier shot into the green. The safer, straight shot off the tee leaves a tricky shot to an elevated green. Check out the great view of the Resort Hotel from the green.
  • Hole #7: A dramatic 177 yard par 3 with the West Maui Mountains in the distance framing your tee shot. Be sure to take enough club on the tee to avoid the ravine fronting the putting surface.
  • Hole #8 is a solid tee shot on the 414 yard Par 4 eighth hole will leave you a decent approach to a large green. Hit an extra club on your approach shot as the green is slightly elevated from the fairway landing area.
  • Hole #9: The 370 yard Par 4, Hole #9 is surrounded by kiawe trees on both sides of the fairway. Factor in the left to right grain on your approach shot to land the ball close to the flag.
  • Hole #10: Three solid shots are required on the 550 yard par 5 tenth hole. Avoid the false front on this tricky putting surface with your approach play to the green.
  • Hole #11: For Hole #11, play your tee shot well left of the fairway bunkers on the 390 yard par 4 on this hole. This will give you the best look at the green on this dogleg right hole.
  • Hole #12: Try your best not to be distracted on the tee of the 185 yard par 3 of Hole #12. Sweeping panoramic Pacific Ocean views with whales jumping in the distance make this one of the best par 3 holes in all of Hawaii.
  • Hole #13: Long hitters will be tempted to go for the green on the downhill 356 yard dogleg right par 4 but for Hole #13 avoid the 9 bunkers on this hole with your tee shot. This will give you a good chance to knock it close and make your birdie putt.
  • Hole #14: The views on the 620 yard par 5 14th hole are simply some of the best on any golf course anywhere in the world. This downhill double-dogleg hole truly captures the essence of emerald green grass, white sand bunkers, bold black lava and crystal blue ocean like no other hole. It is the second-longest hole in Hawaii, long hitters can reach the green in two but watch out for the fairway bunkers.
  • Hole #15: The 217 yard par 3 15th hole plays downhill to a large green fronted by two large bunkers. Pick the right club and try not to be distracted by the view of Molokini islet from the tee.
  • Hole 16: Hitting the correct club from the tee of the 392 yard 16th hole is crucial. With kiawe trees on both sides of the fairway accuracy counts on the approach shot to the elevated green surrounded by 4 bunkers.
  • Hole #17: The landing area narrows the further you drive the ball on the 395 yard par 4 17th hole. Steer clear of the large bunker fronting the right side of the putting green.
  • Hole #18: The finishing hole at Makena Golf Course Hole #18, a 433 yard par 4, requires a solid tee shot plus a fairly long approach to a green protected by bunkers. Finish strong and enjoy the memories of this dramatic and unique golf facility.
