Food & Wine Education Series
This series features a culinary partnership between Hawaii Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo and Makena’s talented chefs. It is designed to pair the best of our Chef’s fresh and cultured dishes with the best of old world and new world wines. The series will focus on various wines paired with dishes made with fresh local ingredients from local farms and companies. During each event, our chef conducts a cooking demonstration while Master Sommelier Patrick Okubo educates on the wines chosen for each event. Each event features a theme with three wines and dish pairings. Past themes include: Poke & Sauvignon Blanc, Taste of Sonoma, Taste of Australia, Italy and Gnocchi, Lamb & Syrah, Spanish Wines & Tapas, Taste of Chile, Santa Barbara Wines and Taste of Napa.
Winery of the Month Series
Each month the Makena Beach & Golf Resort features a winery or vineyard in its dining outlets, offering three flight tastings and specials on the chosen winery’s wines. In addition, the resort holds a special Winery of the Month dinner, a five course meal designed by the resort’s chefs and paired with wine selections of the featured winery. These monthly wine dinners feature a special guest host from the chosen winery, vineyard or distributor to speak on the wines chosen and the pairings. The Makena Beach & Golf Resort introduced its Winery of the Month series in January 2013 featuring Cakebread Cellars with special guest Dennis Cakebread. Other wineries featured since then include Duckhorn, Craggy Range, Banfi Vitners, Miner Valley, Cade, Rombauer, Paradigm, Silver Oak, Joel Gott, Alexander Valley Vineyards, Laird and Vine Cliff Winery to name a few.
Liquid Chef Cocktail Series
Makena Beach & Golf Resort’s cocktail series occurs monthly at the Molokini Bar & Grille and features a different spirit and master mixologist each month. Focusing on bartending techniques that can be utilized at home using various top shelf spirits, each event will feature drink demonstrations by the master mixologist and a representative from the chosen spirit. Guests will get the chance to sample 3-5 cocktails at each event. Specialty appetizer pairings prepared by the resort’s culinary staff will also be provided. Past event themes and spirits include: Casamigos Tequila, Ocean Vodka, Juniper Berries & Everything Gin, Whiskey and Bourbon, Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum. Past Master Mixologists in attendance includes Chandra Lucariello and Jeoy Gottesman.
